New project!

I'll be posting photos taken with my new iPhone 4S. I'm excited to see what I can do with it. 

  

9/11/2001

My journal entry from that day is below. There weren't many words to describe what I was seeing so I used photos found online in the days that followed. I was 21 years old and in my 4th year at NIU.

A few weeks later on September 29th, the NIU Huskie Marching Band joined the University of Toledo Marching band at their stadium for a combined performance of "God Bless the USA" and "Stars and Stripes Forever". I still tear up when I remember the feeling of playing that piccolo soli. I barely got through it that day.

I saw Sherry post this to her site and then Emily (HGTV Design Star winner and Secrets from a Stylist host) mentioned it on Twitter. Both are ladies whose style and craftiness I admire. I thought it was a brilliant idea. I just had to decided which of my pins to take on. I ended up making sewing kit in a jar because I had just bought a bunch of little spools of thread and need a place to keep them besides a sandwich baggie!

Aubrey has rediscovered his love for sailing within the last year. I'm glad he has something physical to do. I generally don't worry about him when he's out on Lake Michigan. The harsh environment of Lake Michigan turned scary for him last night during some severe weather that hit overnight.

I went to bed around 10:30pm knowing it was likely he would get caught in but didn't let myself worry about it. I was woken up at 3am by a text from Aubrey that said "safe through the storms everyone's fine. Finishing soon." I went back to sleep.

Aubrey called me at 7:45am after they had finished and eaten breakfast. This is when he told me that those storms were the scariest he's ever found himself in. Another member of his crew was 70% sure the boat was not going to hold up. Aubrey said they had to stop sailing the race and basically just hold on to make it through. Now I was concerned. I had no idea it had been that bad.

I had no idea until I hung up with Aubrey that it could have been so very much worse.
