eating Teddy Grahams!

We spent today babysitting Kaetlyn and hanging out with my sister.  It was a lot of fun and I got to try photographing an almost 3 year old who barely stops.  She is just so cute!

I need to get a little more inspired and actually get out of my apartment to take pictures.  Maybe I can get some ideas on my way home tomorrow.

red roses are my favorite

I love the richness of color in the arrangement of roses.  My co-worker received this for her birthday and I knew I want to photograph it.  The amount of detail that I was able to get in the petals is pretty good.  I like that it isn't completely sharp and is a little soft, like the softness of the petal itself. I like the perspective and that you can see the shape and size of the arrangement.

on a break

I'm not really happy with the noise in this photo but I like the look of it.  I'm realizing that it's going to take a lot of practice and mistakes to get to the skills I want to have.

running errands

Bought the rest of my camera accessories today: bag and extra memory card.  Also got a memory card wallet but it's kinda big so I think I'll return it.  There is a pocket for them in the case that I didn't see when I bought it anyway. At least I keep the extra cases since memory cards don't come with them anymore.

1st picture taken with the new camera!

My new Canon SX20 IS arrived today.  I'm very excited, and a little overwhelmed, to learn how to use all its features.  Reading the user manual is great but retaining all the information will take some practice.  At least there are familiar point and shoot settings to fall back on!  Apologies to Aubrey for the slightly unflattering shot.

a positive outlook is needed

Today started off with an unwanted expense in the form of a parking ticket.  Aubrey didn't realize the city added a handicapped permit spot at the end of our block--$250!  But on the upside, a guy at work sold him an Apple TV for $10!!! OMG the coolness! I like to look at it as we paid $250 for the Apple TV and $10 for the parking ticket.  The universe is on our side.

A self portrait

A very busy day at work left me with no time to focus on creativity today.  Most of the pictures I took when I got home were not so great.  I was experimenting with the self timer and started taking shots of myself.  I like this one best.

I purchased a new camera today! I choose the Canon PowerShot SX20 IS. I think it will be great to explore some manual settings but have the ease of a point and shoot when I want it. It should arrive from Amazon on Wednesday. I don't usually order online but it was the same sale price as at Best Buy but included a free 4GB memory card and I was able to get the Canon batteries for less than I would have paid at the store with sales tax. I decided that the wonderful gift from Gramma Hart should be put to use in documenting my family and my life for my future grandchildren.
